Hands, grip and daily living aids

Simple adaptations that keep writing, cooking, dressing and phone use manageable.
Hand involvement in CMT typically appears later than foot symptoms and shows up as trouble with buttons, zips, keys, jar lids, taps and handwriting.
Occupational therapists can suggest built-up handles, key turners, button hooks, lever taps, electric toothbrushes, jar openers and lightweight cookware — small changes that preserve independence.
Voice dictation, larger phone cases with grips, and keyboard alternatives reduce strain for study and work.
Protect the hands from burns and cuts where sensation is reduced: check water temperature with a thermometer or an unaffected area, and use oven mitts generously.
